My two cents — it should make sense. If you’re going to experiment with the trends, you should ask yourself “Why?” For what purpose?!

Adding blur to any old photo just because it’s “cool” or “trendy” will get old fast. The silverware? I don’t think they’re running off to the altar together ;)

But motion blur when used as a tool to emphasize a specific emotion or feeling, to magnetize the moment, and to make your 2D image feel like it’s popping off the page — that makes all the sense to me.

I’ll use it most often as a metaphor, emphasizing two people lost in their own world. A playful quality. Or the speed of time, and clouded memories. I also appreciate the way it can transform a photograph to another medium (think watercolor, paint), emphasizing its existence as art. Or maybe I’ll use it as a metaphor for two humans blending their lives into one. Or for simplifying a scene down to its elements, of light and color.

Ultimately, there are no rules. But that’s my two cents! What’s your gut reaction to motion blur as a trend and technique?

When beautiful hearts come together for the most beautiful day — you get H & G at The Ebell of Los Angeles for their September wedding.

My goal was to sum up the wedding in ten slides, but I should’ve known better ! From the way these two looked at each other, to the way they made all others present on their day feel included and special, I was so inspired by it all.

My ex once told me, it was my blossoming photograp

My ex once told me, it was my blossoming photography business that led to our breakup.

It was my passion, pulling me away from him on weekends. Consuming my time and attention. It was essentially, my fault.

This was after I’d learned he’d been cheating on me over the course of 6 years (give or take).

You can imagine how his comment made me feel.

Fast-forward 4 years. My sweet fiancé captured this sweaty shot of me after a set of weekend mini sessions, which I last minute added to the calendar to raise money for families of Maui. Our time together is limited, as he also works a crazy schedule. Weekends, too. It was a rare Saturday that we could’ve spent off together, doing anything else. And I usually do try to keep our off days, off.

But did he make me feel bad for one second for choosing to spend the afternoon this way instead? No. He volunteered to come with, and to be an extra set of hands. I got to share with him what I love doing. He got to actually see me in action for the first time. He enthusiastically took my photo, and posed to finish off the roll.

It was the simplest gesture, but it meant the world.

When I got these images back, they reminded me of where I’ve been, where I am, and where I’m going.

While I never doubted that God had a plan for me, and that I’d eventually meet the right person at the right time, there were definitely moments where I doubted I could wait so long.

Alex walked into my life right when I needed him most. He is my biggest cheerleader, and fan of the business.

I suppose I share this just to speak to those of you who aren’t sure you’ve found your forever person yet, that life works in mysterious ways and in perfect timing. It’ll be worth the wait.

I‘ve seen what love is, and what love isn’t. I’m not perfect, but I sure as hell will always strive to lead with it. In and outside of business (continued in comments)

Going on the tenth weekend of weddings, be it for

Going on the tenth weekend of weddings, be it for my own clients or to assist friends in the industry. Almost to a three week break, where my fiancé and I will be wedding guests instead! And when I’ll be going through a crazy number of gorgeous memories from the last few weeks.

Happy to be down in Palos Verdes today, where the sun and heat are a tad bit more gentle. Happy weekend, to those working and those resting!

Back to the ‘bu tonight for some sweet sunset magic, like we had on this day back in May.

I just love your love stories!

Love photographing them, and writing on the subject too.

What do you think about some type of weekly series around here? I enjoy connecting with y’all on a deeper level and getting real and getting personal, but sometimes it feels odd to show up and do so on a whim. I’m afraid I’ll scare you off with my long-winded musings — where I bare my heart, my hopes, my fears. As a human being first, business owner, artist, photographer second. But perhaps if such posts are set to occur on a predictable schedule, that could be fun? And comforting? And we could connect even further on universal feelings that often aren’t spoken about so openly.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you think this can be that type of space, or should we just stick to business as usual?
