As a brand photographer in Los Angeles and Pasadena, I’ve watched incredible entrepreneurs struggle to show up authentically online, not because they lack talent or passion, but because they lack the imagery that truly represents who they are and what they do. That’s why I’ve put this guide together: to help you understand what a brand photoshoot is, how it works, and why it might be the missing piece in connecting with your dream clients.

What is a brand photoshoot?
Brand photography is a collection of professional images that capture the real essence of your business. Not just what you do, but who you are and why you do it. These aren’t stiff corporate headshots or stock photos that could be anyone. They’re images that feel like you and help your audience connect with the human behind the business. These are at least 2-hour sessions that include multiple wardrobe options and props.
A brand photoshoot typically includes:
- Headshots and portraits that show your personality (and your team’s, if you have one!)
- Lifestyle imagery of you actually doing your work — in your element, your flow
- Detail shots of your workspace, tools, or products that tell your story
- Behind-the-scenes moments that let people peek into your process.
Who is a brand photoshoot for?
Whether you’ve been running your business for years or you’re just starting out, a brand photoshoot is one of the most powerful ways to showcase your brand and expertise. As a brand photographer in Los Angeles, I specialize in working with:
- Creative entrepreneurs like designers, photographers, and wedding vendors
- Service providers like realtors, healthcare professionals, estheticians, and more
- Product-based businesses that need cohesive imagery of their products and the people behind them
What about mini brand sessions?
These are short, 15-minute sessions in a studio setting that are perfect if you’re just looking for a handful of images with one look and one or two small props. Mini sessions are offered on set dates, times, and locations, with sign-ups always released to my email list first (sign up for that here!). These are usually best if you already have a core set of imagery that you use, but need a quick refresh to keep things dynamic. If this sounds like you, you can learn more about mini sessions here.
Locations for brand photoshoots in Los Angeles
One of the most important decisions in planning your brand shoot is choosing the right location. The setting should feel authentic to your brand and support the story it’s telling.
Studios
These spaces offer a clean, controlled setting for imagery with consistent lighting. This is ideal for product photography, headshots, and curated lifestyle shots, or when you want a bit more creative control over the space. Your photographer will usually find the best studio space for your session. I love to use Peerspace to find uniquely styled studios.
Your office or business location
Here, you’ll be captured in your actual work environment with the details that make your process come to life — the books on your shelf, your favorite mug, the way the light filters through. This option works especially well for service providers who work on location.
Your home
This feels most genuine for entrepreneurs whose businesses are intertwined with their daily lives (like many are!). The key is choosing a spot in your home with plenty of natural light and a clean, polished space that feels on-brand.
The brand photoshoot process
From start to finish, your brand photoshoot will feel collaborative and stress-free. This is how we’ll work together:
- Inquiry and consultation – Begin with a simple contact form. Look forward to a response from me within two business days to schedule a short 15-minute discovery call to discuss your business goals and vision. When we’ve aligned the details, your date will be confirmed with a signed contract and 50% retainer.
- Discovery — Shortly after, you’ll complete an in-depth brand questionnaire designed to provide clarity on your “why,” ideal clients, future goals, and more. This essential step helps me deeply understand the heart of your brand and guides the entire creative direction for the session.
- Mood board creation and logistics — With this discovery in mind, I will design a custom mood board, including a proposed shot list, timeline, and prop guidelines. About 6 weeks before your session, we’ll finalize the location details, wardrobe, and any necessary vendors with a short final prep call.
- Your session — On the day of your session, your final %0% payment is due, and then it’s time to dive in at our planned Los Angeles photoshoot location. I will guide you through the natural movement and posing prompts to capture your authentic brand voice.
- Delivery and photo reveal — Your online gallery link will arrive within 3-4 weeks for you to make your selections. You will be able to instantly download your favorites and start implementing them to connect with your ideal clients.
